2022 Chevy Traverse

This is a fun time to drive an SUV. From the legacy established by the Chevy Suburban and carried on through the SUV boom of the 1990s, Chevrolet has navigated the process of building the perfect SUV remarkably well. Whether you're looking for a small crossover like the Trax or ready to step into a three-row SUV like the 2022 Chevy Traverse, it seems that there is a vehicle for every driver in the Chevrolet lineup. While each vehicle has its own distinct personality and performance, there is one constant across the brand: these are vehicles built to be driven and designed to perform exactly the way their drivers need them to.

The 2022 Chevy Traverse is a fantastic example of how to create a niche vehicle that will appeal to the masses. Not everyone is looking for a vehicle that can safely carry eight passengers on a regular basis. However, there are plenty of folks who can benefit from massive cargo room, flexible seating for as many people as any spur-of-the-moment plan requires, and a safety-forward driver assistance package. Check out the 2022 Chevy Traverse to see how you might benefit from adding this stuff-hauling, people-toting SUV to your driveway.

A Family-Size SUV

One of the critiques of the Chevy Traverse is that it is large. This is true. The Traverse does nothing to hide the fact that its three rows of seats can comfortably accommodate up to eight adults. In order to do that, you really need an overall length of 205.9 inches.

Chevy appreciates that a vehicle for large families is a very niche market. Having done considerable research over its 110 years of automobile manufacturing, Chevy knows that there are multiple reasons why someone might regularly need that much space. Whether you regularly drive the office carpool or somehow end up taking the whole neighborhood to soccer lessons, the two rows of bench seats may come in handy frequently.

Seating, Towing, and Cargo Space

Furthermore, captain's seats may be optioned for the second row and come standard in a few trims. While this reduces the seating capacity to seven, it doesn't alter the maximum 98.2 cubic feet of total cargo room that can be accessed by folding the second and third-row seats. The Smart Slide second-row seating also easily glides out of the way to make accessing the third row easier. Available cargo space organizers and roof racks expand this space even more, allowing you to throw on a few bicycles, kayaks, or other sporting equipment.

Another important feature of the 2022 Chevy Traverse is its ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds. That makes it a powerful companion when heading on road trips, camping trips, or sporting events that require a little extra equipment. Whether you're running errands here in Sacramento or taking the kids to see Lake Tahoe, the 2022 Traverse is just the right size to pack everything you could possibly need while also providing enough room for passengers to have plenty of personal space.

Easy to Drive

A critique people had regarding SUVs of yesteryear was the inverse relationship between drivability and size. It seemed the larger the SUV got, the more difficult it was to drive. Mercifully, technology has adjusted this dilemma, and the 2022 Chevy Traverse has been commended for its responsive driving as well as its overall roominess.

Under the hood is a standard 3.6L V6 engine that provides 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. This engine is more than enough to make the 2022 Traverse feel nimbler as it zips through urban and suburban streets, especially since it is paired with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Traverse also maintains an impressive fuel economy for a vehicle of its stature. Those who select front-wheel drive models can anticipate up to 18 miles per gallon on the city streets and 27 miles per gallon on the highway. All-wheel drive models make 17 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

Safe in All Conditions

Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive models both include an exclusive set of selectable drive modes to help you customize your vehicle's performance. For example, when using the front-wheel drive mode in an all-wheel drive Traverse, you'll experience the most economical ride, while the all-wheel drive mode helps stability and traction when the road gets slippery. Those who plan to leave the pavement can enjoy the off-road mode, which sends torque to the rear to help deal with rugged paths.

For the 2022 model year, Chevy has introduced a standard Safety Assist package across the lineup. That means all 2022 Chevy Traverse models are equipped with a full array of driver assistance and safety technology. This includes Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking and Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert with Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high beam assistance.

Additional driver assistance technology becomes available in the higher trims. This includes a safety alert seat, which vibrates to alert the driver to impending danger, and HD Surround Vision, which provides a 360-degree view of the Traverse's surroundings. Adaptive Cruise Control is also offered to make long highway drives more relaxing.

Six Available Trims

The 2022 Chevy Traverse is offered in six different trims, each of which is designed to cater to a driver's needs.

The LS may be the base model, but it comes well-equipped. Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control ensures that all the passengers stay comfy, regardless of how long the ride ahead may be. Ten cupholders ensure that everyone has a place for their drinks, and a 7-inch color touchscreen connects users to the infotainment system.

The LT Cloth and LT Leather trims have an obvious difference in upholstery, but the variations don't end there. The Cloth version has an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and adds a Side Blind Zone Alert. The Leather version adds a 6-way power-adjustable passenger's seat, a programmable power liftgate, and a larger 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. Both LT models are eligible for the Midnight and Sport Editions, which add black exterior accents, including wheels, badges, and grille surround.

The RS trim stands out from the crowd with an exclusive black interior with Spice Red accents. It also provides additional comfort with perforated leather-appointed seating in the first and second rows. The upgraded Chevy Infotainment 3 Plus system attaches a 10-speaker premium Bose sound system to the 8-inch HD touchscreen for the best cruising tunes possible.

Luxury Trims

At the Premier level, the 2022 Traverse gains a lot of glitz in the form of chrome door handles and roof rails, 20-inch metallic aluminum wheels, and a dual exhaust with bright tips. Also on board is a hands-free power liftgate, which makes adding and removing cargo easier than ever. Drivers will also appreciate the clear detail on the 8-inch Enhanced Driver Information Center, which provides all of the immediate need-to-know details about your driving and your vehicle.

The High Country is the top trim in the 2022 Chevy Traverse lineup, and it wears its elegance well. Drivers who need frequent towing will appreciate its heavy-duty cooling system, as well as trailering assistance features, such as Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, which helps drivers get hooked up on the first try. The SkyScape dual-panel sunroof with power sunscreen also lets the sunshine in along with a healthy dose of fresh air.

Whatever your driving needs require, the 2022 Traverse provides an excellent and enjoyable option to the Chevy lineup. When it comes to hauling your family, friends, pets, equipment, and belongings, it's important to enjoy the drive, and the Traverse was made specifically with the driver in mind.
